I don't know of anybody else creating raytraced mouse cursors, so I suppose these are the most 3D-looking mouse cursors available on the net.
This cursor scheme greatly improves the 3D impression that Windows is trying to give, looks especially cool with the Windows 2000 / Windows XP "Cursor Shadow" option active.
Even though these animations are quite "monumental" in the relations of mouse cursors (each has 50 frames and is to be played at 25fps, with 8 bit color), I found they don't put any noticeable extra load on the CPU or the graphics card (unlike all other desktop enhancers).

features

  • 256-color, 32x32, smoothly animated cursor scheme
  • Standard Windows ".ANI" format
  • Comes with handy setup program to create the preset scheme (tested with Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP)
  • No 3D hardware or software support needed (pre-rendered animations)

version history

  • 2001-06-29, version 1.0: first official release
  • 2004-03-20: The cursors appear to flicker on my new VAIO Notebook with Windows XP. Must be a hardware issue though, not my fault.

installation procedure

Download lisi3d10.exe, run it, and have all files unzipped to a folder of your choice (like "C:\WINDOWS\CURSORS\LISI3D" or "C:\Program Files\Liquidsilver3D"). Then open that folder, double-click the executable file "Install Mouse Cursors" and follow the instructions.
Yes, meanwhile I have realized that the method for "installing" these cursors (i.e. creating the scheme in the Windows Registry) used here is VERY bad programming style. Nevertheless it works on all target platforms - so why bother changing it?
