During the winter and spring of 2005 I did my second practical semester at Genias Graphics in Regenstauf. Which meant a nice 18 kilometer bicycle trip every morning and every evening, most of it on a nice bikeway along the Regen valley. I took lots of IR images there as well as on other occasions. Shooting IR had become routine by then - the pocket tripod (to put on the bicycle saddle) was always traveling with me in my Ortlieb OfficeBag.

The village of Zeitlarn seen from across the Regen. In the IR image, the church looks almost lonely. |

A light-flooded springtime forest near a village appropriately named Laub (foilage). Another of those pictures I didn't dare to crop. |

Originally I intended to do a multi-week bicycle tour this summer as well, but with all the X-UFO business I didn't get anything organized for the voyage and settled for two single-day bike trips in the Bavarian Forest mountain range. Weather was far from perfect on both occassions, but I did manage to shoot some nice IR pics.

The Siebensteinkopf ("seven rock head") is an unspectacular peak only about 500 meters from the border to the Czech Republic, near Finsterau ("dark meadow"). This is apparently one of the seven rocks, though I admit I didn't count them. The moss on the foreground rocks looks to me like bacteria or pollen under a raster electron microscope. This is the smaller of two tarns below the Arber, the highest peak in the Bavarian Forest. It has three very peculiar flat islands floating around on its surface. Satellite image on Google Maps .
