Of course my digital still cameras - like all consumer cameras - take pictures with the aspect ratio of a computer screen, which is traditionally 4:3. But I realized that for most of the scenes I shoot (landscapes, above all), the "home cinema" aspect ratio of 16:9 is more suitable and also looks more "stylish". Then again, that is not a strict rule, so some images in which the subject natively fills the entire 4:3 frame have not been cropped.
Another reason is simply that I was looking for some specialty I could explain the "w" in "widicam" with, and I didn't want to use "weird"...
If you want to use it as a background image on your PC or something similar, do so, no problem. For any public (or actually commercial, har har) use, you probably want to get a copy of the original file (4:3 aspect, 2288x1716 pixels in most cases, which is well enough for printing on an A4 page) for better quality and extended field of view - just ask me for it, and we'll agree on conditions of use.
